Gender Identity Justice

Picture
Gender Identity is a social and legal status that references a private sense of who one is.

Gender identity is defined as a personal conception of oneself as male or female or both or neither. This concept is intimately related to the concept of gender role, which is defined as the outward manifestations of personality that reflect the gender identity. Gender identity is self-identified; gender role, on the other hand, is manifested within society by observable factors such as behavior and appearance.

Society is moving slowly to extend social and legal status to people who identify differently from their anatomical status.  As a result, gender identity is the impetus for marginalization and decreased social and legal status.  As Unitarian Universalists, we work (and fight) for full inclusion.
